...what would it be? This is just a "what if you could?" scenario, so if you can find an image of a vehicle you'd like to bug out from the apocalypse in, what would it be? This is for a bit of fun and speculation so if you find some weird thing on wheels and you'd be brave enough to drive it through the apocalypse, post it up! Here's one that I have a particular liking for, a civilian modified Russian BTR-80 armoured personnel carrier. The rear deck can be used for storage apparently and it's still amphibious

There is a apc at the county auction, but I dont know if its for sale. A apc would probably be best though they would be gas hogs. I wonder if a hydrogen engine could be used in one...

I think I would turn a few heads with this... ;D I don't really know much about vehicles but something suitable for off-road driving and with plenty of storage space would be good.

@ Pupnik - that mecha-elephant would probably keep you safe though, I think lots of people would be terrified of the thing if they saw it coming towards them! @ Kaje - nice!

I thought so, too! Hehe.
It's a concept Hummer, apparently. It'll never, ever, get made - but it's freakin' sweet.

Oh, well I'm changing mine if we get to pick anything we want. I'll go with this: All I'd have to worry about are stormtroopers with accurate blast points...

Neospooky - that's f**king awesome! I wish I'd thought of it first. It appeals to me on many levels. One, because I'm an old school Star Wars fanboy, two, because it's a tracked (and possibly armoured) vehicle and I have soft spot for tracked vehicles and three, it's practically a village on wheels (well, tracks, but you know what I mean!) Hell Yeah! Can I join your clan when the apocalypse comes?!

I wouldn't want anything I couldn't make biodeisel for. I'd rather have a cheap aluminum framed one seater running off of car batteries I could charge from a solar array. WOuld just put the solar panels on the roof, but you run the risk of getting it damaged from overzealous raiders.

I did have a schoolbus design that I actually commissioned a drawing of, can't find it now.. but oh well. It was a schoolbus that had its wheels replaced with treads, armor plated, wrapped in barbed wire, had a fenced in enclosure on top for troops, and a radio transmitter mounted on the top. With machineguns in the front and back.

Well if you're going to go real-world military vehicles, I've always had a fondness for the Ratel. Ratel 90 - armed with 90mm cannon, crew of 4 plus can carry 6 troops. 105kph on road. 1000km range without refueling plus it has a large internal drinking water tank.
