That seems like it would flip itself if it fired anywhere but in front and behind itself.

they are very stabel. Never herd of one flipping due to firing side on (witch they do). The height is actually a good thing in African bush. the lower Russian vehicles had problems seeing through the bush that where higher than they where. personally i would go for the new badger has it is amphibious and the 30mm is good enough for most threats and any thing that it can not kill the AT misslies would take care of. and if you do not care about care Friends you can get the best armored car of it class the Rooikat with your choice of a converted navel 76mm gun or a 105mm gun. personally i would go for the 76mm you can carry more ammo. all vehicles (and almost all vehicles in the SANDF) mentioned above can go 1000km on one tank of fuel and supply the men inside with enough supplies for the trip and the all mine protected

That seems like it would flip itself if it fired anywhere but in front and behind itself. It might look that way but it doesn't happen, the vehicle is very stable and has a good weight that's concentrated in the lower part of the hull/chassis to make sure the centre of gravity is not too high. The South Africans have used the Ratel in combat many times over many years. It's also in service with the Moroccan Army.

The enemy. Just because we not at war now dose not mean we will not be again. The Ratal was used in the Border war against the Cuba and Angola. Current day South Africa has no enemies but we are one of the largest contributors to peace keeping missions.

Also, South Africa, from what I understand, has the most capable and powerful military on the African continent. They are able to act as a stabilizing force throughout the region and no doubt provide significant amounts of training and aid to struggling nations near them.
According to what I've read, they maintain the only African Navy capable of blue water (expeditionary, open ocean) operations. Their Air Force maintains a compliment of fourth generation jet fighters.

And we the only one that develops and produce military gear to a standard that 1st world nations buy them. And all though we are small we can actually mobilize more men in one spot than african countries with larger army's.
On the navy the USN submarine core rated us the 4th best submarine serves they trained with and how navy is the only African nation to deploy a vessel to do Anti piracy there is going to be for the one frigate deployed there on a 6 month cycle.
I will say we have problems but all Armed serves have problems.
Small fact South Africa has the second largest land training area. We can stage a battles at the divisional level.

What;s with all the overcompensation? Those are literally tanks. The context of the question was "What vehicle would you want to bug out in?" Not "What vehicle would you use to blow the sh*t out of something." Well, this is MY dream-getaway-vehicle. Bonus points if you guess what it is without looking at the url.

I just want another old Landrover like my '67 - you can fix the damn thing with a rock and a screwdriver. I recently found one in a yard in Flagstaff and want to walk up to the door with $1500 cash and see what that'll do. Hopefully this year. The single most amazing vehicle I've ever owned. Started it with a crank for 3 years because I couldn't afford a starter - then I could and decided it was the world's best anti-theft device. Even WITH the crank most people wouldn't know how to start it.

gotta be the stryker armored personal carrier for me. it can hit over 100kph and carries 9 men + 2 crew (enough for a raiding party and supplies) the range aint bad at 550k it carries eather a 12.7mm machine gun or a 40mm grenade launcher on an automated platform so no crew have to be exposed the rear setions roof opens up to allow fire from small arms/unmounted heavy wepons to be used.

It has more weapons platforms than just that. Also the rear is for mortars, thats why it opens from the top iirc.
