What does everyone think about Josella's suggestion to teach the children some myth about the old world so that they won't feel the new world is pointless?
I don't like the idea for several reasons, mostly because I think beliefs not based on truth can cause all kinds of problems, and as the kids got older they'd hopefully figure out what happened anyway.
But mostly I don't think kids would care much about how the old world was wiped out, or think that a fragile existence is necessarily a useless one. Any group can be wiped out by many different causes, or any individual just drop dead at any moment, but that doesn't mean you just give up now and stop living.
But the concept of children of the apocalypse starting out with a blank slate as far as general beliefs is pretty interesting. With no other sources of influence, you could get them to believe all sorts of things.
Might there be any "lies" that would have long term benefits and so be justified?
