"You can carry 2 ak47 rounds for every 7.62 round." They are basically the same round though. Interesting blog, will read some more.

Maybe, but the ak version is the 39. Thats why they drop like stone's compared to the 51mm.

Okay so I'm resurrecting a dead thread here but I was wondering if any of you remember the specific post where the guy talks about the AK47 rounds. He is right thought, you can carry 2 AK rounds to 1 7.62mm NATO round. The AK fires 7.62x39mm M43 round while the 7.62mm NATO round is 7.62x51mm, the M43 is roughly half the weight of the 7.62mm NATO. I don't think he is talking specifically about overall dimensions so much as the size plus the weight involved. However, I'd like to read the post to see the context and see it in his own words.

Hmm, lots of interesting stuff in there. I think the most important points raised were that you need to assess the role you see your rifle performing and then find the rifle that best fits that role and that no one rifle will perfectly fulfill all the roles you'll need. Overall though, I think that the blog is well worth reading through so thumbs up for Triffid for finding it and posting it here

Really good blog! I decided to share it on facebook. Thanks for the post. It had alot of valuable information. I really have changed my survival ideas from watching this. Now I'm going to buy the steel canteen for water. Just luv that huge bladed knife by the way. Gotta have one! Well I can go on, but there was a slight rearrangement of dress for me being a female.

FWIW, two of the best, cheap survival articles you can have is a P38 or P51 can opener (The P51 is bigger and easier to manipulate) and the USGI stainless steel canteen cup - it fits over any USGI canteen - I have three from WWII which are awesome. You can boil water and make dinner in the cup, then eat out of it. Highly recommended. A homemade 10 cent alcohol stove is also a good investment. Fuel is easy to find and can be stored in plastic w/o issues, is less flammable (dangerous) and is easy to use. The mention of stainless water bottles got me thinking about this. You can find all of the above cheap on ebay.
