IN post apocalypse, what there is too little of would be gas, and too much of would be vehicles themselves. These thing coud be literally iron mines on wheels, providing metal for everything from plows to swords, not to mention barricades. Please add your wisdom to the pool of what you can do with salvaged vehicles, and which parts are good for what alternative purposes!

They would be great for finding somewhere simple to sleep or just protection from the elements. Like you said there are so many components and material in a car that you could make all sorts out of them.

I like the way buried cars are mined in the far future in Riddley Walker.
They would make good temporary shelters, although once the windscreens and windows are destroyed would not provide that much shelter, but all the chassis components, wheels, tyres etc would be good materials to build basic walls and shelters.
Larger vehicles like buses and trains would make great homes.

I remember in City of Sparks (sequel to city of ember), Trucks' engines were removed and pulled by oxen as carts. YOu think that was efficient?

Here, this would boost your idea. For one, I would salvage the car batteries and the engine to make some wind generatiors.

An idea comes to mind,a shield the common unprepared survivor will have melee weapons and maybe preper spray and a shield can block both 😃. I can draw up a sketch on Notability if you are interested in seeing on how you can do it
