So thinking about Philip and the way he just gave up, would you want to survive a situation like Infection?
I have children myself, so as long as their fate was uncertain, I'd definitely fight to stay alive and to find them, but if I knew for sure they were gone, then I could imagine not wanting to go on also.
But getting eaten by the Infected would hurt, so I definitely wouldn't end it that way.
As I was reading about Philip giving up, I was wondering if DiLouie had been inspired by the banker guy in Alas, Babylon who also took the end of his world pretty hard.

I wouldn't want to survive. I don't have kids, so I wouldn't have that pressure to keep going. The prospect of no air conditioning, refrigeration, electricity, internet, movies, and on and on and on....The whole basis of my lifestyle would be gone, and I am old enough to not be that interested in changing it. I also happen to be a person who takes prescription meds on a monthly basis, and would be screwed over the long run anyways.

We are both in Hawaii too, so I think it would be much worse here than on the mainland, given that most of our food and supplies are shipped in. 1 million people and no food trapped on a 30x40 mile chunk of dirt surrounded by the largest moat in the world...scary.

I think our survival instinct is too strong for most people. I would want to survive because to give up is just not something I could accept. BUT I would really miss air conditioning.
